Summer Camp for Girls in Maine
FUN, FRIENDS, AND MEMORIES FOR A LIFETIME
Camp Walden is a 7-week, traditional overnight summer camp in Denmark, Maine. Walden is a close-knit community of girls, ages 8 – 15. Campers return each summer for friendship, challenge and fun and participate in traditional overnight camp activities including wilderness trips, horseback riding, tennis, sailing and water skiing. The Walden experience has been part of young girls’ lives, for 104 years, as they acquire leadership skills and confidence to navigate their world.
Waldenites live for the fun, friendships, and new experiences that summer brings. In addition to the activities and special events that occur at camp, there are many cherished traditions that make Walden a special place.
LEARNING LEADERSHIP IN THE FORESTS OF MAINE
Every summer, 130 girls, 30 junior staff members, and 65 staff members come together to create our happy place for ten days in the Maine woods. We build a community based on trust, self-reliance, seeing the good, and passing it forward.
Our campers and many of our junior staff and staff members come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
At Main Idea, we focus on the dual goals of creating a joy-filled and carefree home-away-from-home while also helping girls develop the self-awareness and self-reliance they need to succeed in the world.
